Turmeric grows wild in the forests of South and Southeast Asia, and commonly used in Indian and Asian cuisines. It is a common component of several Asian herbal medicines, including traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, the herbal medicine of India.
Produced from the dried underground stem (or rhizome), of the Curcuma longa plant - a relative of the ginger plant.
Its flavour is peppery, warm, earthy, and bitter. While its fragrance is mild yet slightly reminiscent of orange and ginger.
An excellent source of both iron and manganese. It is also a good source of vitamin B6, dietary fibre, curcumin, copper, and potassium.
Great for adding to stews, curries, smoothies or scrambled eggs. Why not try simmering some turmeric powder with some milk and honey, for a warm comforting drink.
